Seven Counties’ Crisis and Information Center
needs volunteers

Seven Counties Services’ Crisis and Information Center is looking for volunteers 21 years and older to help with two different needs:

  • Crisis intervention and suicide prevention telephone counseling. Volunteer phone counselors receive intensive training in crisis intervention and suicide prevention.
  • Resource referral telephone assistance. Volunteers use a database of community resources to refer callers needing information/services from health, social service, and other community resources.

The Crisis and Information Center is one of the busiest centers of its kind in the nation, responding to more than 80,000 calls annually. The center provides 24-hour, seven-day-a-week telephone crisis counseling and referral to residents of Bullitt, Henry, Jefferson, Oldham, Shelby, Spencer, and Trimble counties in Kentucky, and Clark, Floyd, and Harrison counties in Indiana. It is Kentucky’s only certified suicide prevention hotline.

Volunteers must be willing to help during one 4-hour shift per week. The Crisis and Information Center offers flexible training monthly, and will arrange volunteer work to fit various schedules. For more information or to volunteer, contact Marcie Bergstrom at 589-8615, ext. 1116 or MBergstr@sevencounties.org.
