Rehabilitation Act Definition
  • The Rehabilitation Act Amendments of 1986 and 1992 (with revisions in 1998) defined supported employment as competitive work in an integrated work setting for individuals with the most severe disabilities for whom competitive employment has not traditionally occurred.


  • The definition of supported employment also includes "transitional employment for persons with severe disabilities due to mental illness."
